PARIS

MOTION DESIGN

This project is [an unofficial] lyric video created for the song Paris by Taylor Swift. All of the animations were created in Adobe After Effects, using only simple motion keyframes. I wanted to create a storyline, referencing y2k aesthetics and a home movie feel in the beginning. I had a lot of fun designing this piece, and spent a lot of time getting the timing of the beats perfect to the lyrics.

CONTENT

The research began with listening to the song until I basically was sick of it -- visualizing it in my head, determining where I thought the emphasis was. From there, I built a moodboard around what I was seeing and hearing in the lyrics and music.

PROCESS

For the moodboard, I focused on a blend of modern and retro aesthetics. I added things like the Pantone colors of 2003, fonts that referenced both the love story and the y2k vibe. I wanted to reflect the poppy, bubbly, bright feeling of the song, and the meaning behind the lyrics. The beginning reflects the gossipy feeling and story, following the map of the gossip, and then the frame expands to reflect the transition to the love story.

CHALLENGES

As for takeaways, this project helped me to learn a lot about After Effects, and especially focus on easing to make movements more natural. It was a challenge to get everything timed correctly, making sure words and movements synced up to the lyrics. I loved working on it, and coming up with ways to portray the story of the song.
