FULTON ST. FARMER’S MARKET

PRINT DESIGN
Fulton St. Farmer’s Market is a staple of downtown Grand Rapids -- it offers locally grown foods, and a chance to gather with and support your community. It also offers a solution to the food deserts experienced by many living downtown, and this poster set is intended to communicate that all are welcome at the market, and specifically support those who use food assistance benefits. Fresh fruits & veggies for all!

CONTENT

This project was centered around an event, with a target audience. I focused on the Fulton St. Farmer’s Market, and in my research, discovered that the market accepts food assistance programs, like Bridge Cards and WIC Project Fresh. This led me to focus on communicating to food assistance program members, and showing them an option for healthy, local food, right in their community. The posters are intended to combat the downtown food desert, and educate on the market.

PROCESS

The process began with research, and getting a sense of the history of the farmer’s market. I then collaged by hand to quickly sketch ideas, before selecting certain concepts to move forward with, and building those out digitally. I incorporated images of EBT tokens, and used a combination of images and vector shapes to make the posters as friendly and appealing as possible, to best reach my target audience.

CHALLENGES

I used stamped type, scanned in and cleaned up, as the typography in this poster. However, the depth this created wasn’t meshing well with the flat background I had originally, so much of the challenge of this process was in getting all of the parts and pieces to seem cohesive.
